Dan has 18 years business experience in specialist sportswear manufacturing including 10 years as a partner and five years as the sole owner and director of Impsport - The UK’s largest manufacturer of cycling, triathlon and running clothing, supplying amateur clubs and professional and national teams, including Team England for the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.
During his time as the MD of Impsport turnover grew by 87% to £1.5m and staff numbers grew by 25% to cope with the growing demand for their products; a success that was achieved by the development of innovative production and ordering processes. This was accomplished through a complete equipment modernisation programme and greater diversification in products and markets, all implemented without changing the core production methods. Alongside this, an online mail order site, coupled with improved marketing and professional athlete endorsements, increased the company's global brand profile resulting in year on year growth of 25% for three consecutive years. Whilst Dan was MD, Impsport were the official suppliers of the GB cycling team and 90% of the British professional cycling teams and in 2008 Dan enjoyed being an active part of the ‘Secret Squirrel’ team, led by Olympic champion Chris Boardman MBE; a role that saw him work on the development of range of prototype products and clothing for the Beijing Olympics. During the games, Team GB achieved a record-breaking medal tally.
In 2007 Dan was nominated and shortlisted in four categories in the Lincolnshire Echo Business Awards, winning the Innovation in Business award and achieving runner up status in the Business Person of the Year category.
A year later, in 2008, Impsport attracted a buyer and was the subject of a takeover bid and Dan moved into a business consultancy role for the new owners which led to the formation of Ellmore Consultancy Ltd.
